ABOUT | EGAKU + PAPADU
EGAKU | PAPADU is a collaboration between the writer and prolific painter, James Egaku and visual artist, poet and Yale alum, PAPADU PAPADU. Separately, they have explored various styles ranging from Post-Impressionism and Surrealism to figurative painting and Afrofuturism, but they have rejected the restrictions of labels, opting instead to use whatever they need to bring form to their ideas. This approach is reflected in their slogan “REDEFINING UNDEFINABLE”.
In collaboration, the duo manipulates both digital and physical mediums, which can best be viewed in PAPADU’s digital remixes of Egaku’s MAMA AFRICA (2020) and THE AFRICAN PRINCE (2020), both acrylic paintings.
In their writings and art, Egaku and PAPADU explore topics ranging from mania, depression and psychosis to the true joy that can be found in the simple moments. With its refusal to be shackled by a style or traditional conventions, EGAKU | PAPADU is set do great and interesting things things in the future.
